Smoke-free entrances

Bendigo Marketplace is going smoke-free

Bendigo Marketplace is committed to reducing the harmful effects of smoking and second-hand smoke through working with our community to create a healthy and welcoming environment.

Smoking is a major cause of preventable death in Victoria and a leading cause of avoidable chronic illness and hospitalisation from conditions including cancer and cardiovascular disease. In consultation with DHHS (Tobacco Control) and City of Greater Bendigo Environmental Health Officers, Bendigo Marketplace are responding to customer feedback by providing smoke-free zones for our community.

Smoke-free zones

From 1 September 2021, the two main entrances to Bendigo Marketplace will be declared complete smoke-free zones. This initiative by the centre aims to create a space where the community can enjoy a welcoming and safe shopping experience.

Smoke-free zones are not mandated or legislated but business owners can elect to create smoke free zones supporting the growing awareness of the dangers of exposure to cigarette smoke.

Designated areas

This means from Wednesday 1 September, smokers should use the new designated smoking areas located a short walk from the main entrances.

The two designated smoking locations will be clearly signed and facilitated with smoking disposal units and public seating. (Please refer to the map below indicating smoke-free zones and new designated smoking areas.)

There’s never been a better time to quit smoking.
