For the second time in their lives, Jeremy and Lynsey York are donning Donut King managerial badges and they couldn’t be happier! Having worked within the food industry for the whole of their careers, the pair decided to take a leap of faith and takeover another of the franchises they love, at the Bendigo Marketplace. We caught up with them, to chat all things doughnuts!
Tell us a little bit about yourself – aside from being Bendigo’s newest Donut King owner, what makes you, you?
We were both born and bred in Bendigo, we love meeting new people and hearing their stories and we enjoy spending time with family and friends.
Is this your first foray into the food franchise industry? And what drew you to Donut King?
We both worked in hospitality and food manufacturing before taking over another Donut King Franchise in 2005. We continued to run that store until 2012 when we sold it, got married and had our beautiful baby girl, Adele.
In recent years we have been running a refrigerated transport business and are now keen to get stuck back into Donut King full-time, doing what we love – meeting all the great customers and serving the best coffee and donuts every day.
What’s your favourite thing about the Bendigo Marketplace?
We love the convenience of the Marketplace with the undercover parking, close proximity to the train and bus stops and the Central Business District. It’s a great place to drop-in and pick up a few things, or spend the day exploring everything on offer and taking time out to enjoy a treat at Donut King 😉
If you could only eat one Donut King product for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Jeremy loves his coffee – latte with raw sugar, a hot dog with the lot for lunch and a chocolate jam donut. Lynsey loves the hot cinnamon donuts.
What are your Top 3 picks from the Donut King range?
- Coffee (any way you like it, warm/extra hot/skinny/soy/extra shot/quarter strength/decaf).
- The all new range of DK Frappe’s, new to Bendigo and only available at the Bendigo Marketplace store.
- You also can’t go past the kid’s range of donuts like the Boy ‘n Girl, Dinosaur or Crocodile just to name a few!
And finally, what is the secret to a perfect donut?
There is a lot involved in making the perfect donut. It all starts with top quality ingredients and then a lot of top secret steps, all carried out with love until they are ready to serve and enjoy.
The revamped Bendigo Marketplace Donut King store is now open – make sure to pop in and pick up your next treat!
